In this workshop, we discuss the elements of a press release, provide a press release outline, and detail how to write a captivating headline to get your press release picked up by the media.
Musicians use the press release to share information with their contacts and media professionals when announcing a new release, new project, upcoming event, or anything they have happening in their music world.
There are several elements of a press release including…
- Contact information
- Date
- Headline
- Opening paragraph
- Body
- Instructions
- Ending
- and special notes to the media professional.
The headline and whether or not your story is newsworthy are the two most important elements in getting your press release picked up by a media outlet. For example, to craft a captivating story about a song, think about why it was written, the circumstances by which it was written, and if the song has any meaningful twists that would make someone say ‘wow’!
