The holiday season is quickly approaching and there’s no reason why an independent musician can’t take full advantage of all the retail revenue that comes along with it. In fact, Statista concludes that Americans spend roughly $7 billion during the holiday season. Musicians have a lot to offer when it comes to the holidays such as Christmas music, holiday party entertainment (live or virtual), gift ideas, singing telegrams, and more. But even if you don’t have any original holiday music or holiday covers to share, there’s still a lot you can do to market and promote yourself during the holidays. You just need to start early and be consistent.

What’s a Holiday Marketing Campaign?

Marketing yourself as an independent artist for the holidays takes a little bit of pre-planning, creativity, and some holiday spirit. A marketing campaign involves everything from graphics and artwork, to planning events, to advertising your merch and entertaining skills, and even re-connecting with your biggest fans. If you’re going to launch a campaign your biggest asset will be your marketing calendar by far! This is where you will keep all the details, ideas, tasks, and activities associated with your campaign.

The calendar includes the months of November, December, and January. It also includes most of the relevant 2022 holidays and observance days for the season. You can use it to plug in your special observance days as well as other related marketing tasks you create. We’ve also included some of our own marketing resources for musicians in addition to a complete list of holiday-specific marketing ideas to spark some of your own.

How to Start Your Music Holiday Marketing Campaign?

The first thing we suggest when starting any campaign is to understand what your goals and objectives are. Every marketing campaign should achieve certain goals that you line out. Since your music is a business your marketing activities should line up with your business goals. For example, your goal may be to get more fans signed up to your mailing list. Or maybe you really need to bring in more income for the next two months, so your goal would be to generate revenue. If you’re just starting out in your independent music career, you might just simply want to gain exposure by increasing your followers on social media. Some musicians might need to re-engage with fans especially if they haven’t blogged, posted, or sent out any newsletters in a while. Each situation will be unique and it’s important to understand your unique business needs before launching any type of marketing campaign.

How to Use The Holiday Marketing Calendar Template?

Keep in mind that this free template is only a template. Think of it as a canvas that you will use as a starting place for your greatest masterpiece. The way this tool is set up may seem overwhelming at first but once you start plugging in your own marketing ideas and tasks, you’ll see just how useful the calendar can be.

After you’ve determined your goals and objectives, use the calendar to plan each marketing activity according to the holidays listed and your own timeline. Use the Sample Marketing Ideas tab as a starting place and plug-in marketing activities in each month as you see fit.

Each month has a list of related holidays you can take advantage of at the bottom. On the left side of each month, there are places to include notes, to-dos, and thoughts to remind you of what’s coming up next month and to stay on track with your marketing plan.

Remember that this is a free file for anyone’s use, so please make a copy and add it to your drive or download it to your computer first before attempting to include personal information.
