Promoting an upcoming Single or EP can be a daunting task. As an independent musician, you’re naturally geared to creating art. However, handling the business side of being a musician may not be so second nature. Some of us may even have an aversion to marketing and promoting our music because it can feel icky. Unfortunately, marketing and promoting yourself as a musician is necessary to thrive as an entrepreneur. One of the best ways to promote and market your music is video marketing. Other than live, in-person performances, what better way to showcase your music than video? If you have an upcoming release, video can be just the thing to propel your music into the listening ears of new fans.

Get the New Release Promotions Checklist

Here’s everything you need to do to promote your music project. Use it every time you have an upcoming release.

The question is, what sort of videos can you do if the music hasn’t been released yet?

Of course, you can do videos like lyric videos, music videos, full performance videos. But, usually, these types of videos aren’t released until after the song has been released. However, there are lots of videos you can do to help promote your upcoming song before it’s released.

In today’s post, we’ll share 4 simple video ideas you can create to help promote your upcoming release. These videos are easy ideas you can record and edit and post to YouTube and other forms of social media. Put your own spin on it and always include information for how to pre-order your upcoming release along with your pre-selected hashtags, your bio, and a link to your website.

Video 1 – Why I Wrote (Insert Song Name Here)

Make a short video of you talking to your audience about your song. Talk about how excited you are and explain why you wrote the song. Here’s an outline you can follow…

Intro

  • Name, Who you are, and Where You’re From
  • Talk about the Song
  • I wrote a new song and I want to tell you a little about it before it’s released.
  • What is the song about and why did you write it.
  • What will your listeners get out of the song?

Outro

  • When should they expect to hear the song?
  • How can they pre-order the song?

Video 2 – Clips/Snippets

This video allows you to showcase bits and pieces of your upcoming release. You could either do an acapella version, an acoustic version, or a full band if you have the availability. The trick with this video is to only offer a short clip of you practicing or performing the hook and bridge of the song. This is meant to be a teaser. It can be very short, but try to make it at least 45 seconds. This gives your audience a good taste but not for too long!

Video 3 – The Interview

See if you can get someone to interview you about your upcoming release. Have them ask you the following questions…

  • Who inspired you to write (insert song name)?
  • What is your favorite line in (insert song name)?
  • How would you describe (insert song name)?
  • What is your song about?
  • What is your songwriting process and how did you go about writing this new song?

If you can’t get someone to interview you, try creating text slides with the questions written out. Show those slides before you answer each song.

Video 4 – Story Time

This video idea works well if you have a unique and interesting story behind your passion and purpose. Use this as a way to intro to your upcoming release. Take some time to share with your audience your deepest thoughts about why you’re in music and doing what you do and how that relates to your upcoming release.
